Vertical or Horizontal Lines on Projector Screen – Repair

Thin vertical or horizontal lines across the image, or a band of wrong colour, usually point to a hardware fault inside the projector. The sooner it is checked, the better the chance of a simple repair.

Common causes

• Faulty DMD chip or its connection (DLP projectors)
• Damaged LCD panel or flex cable (3LCD projectors)
• Formatter/display board fault
• Loose or damaged ribbon cable
• Faulty input cable (lines only from one source)

What you can safely check first

• Check if the lines also appear on the projector’s own menu — if yes, it is an internal fault
• Try another cable and source device

Please do not open the projector yourself — high voltage and hot parts inside can be dangerous, and opening it can cause more damage.
